What is meant by ‘the placement of the stars, and it is a great oath if only you know’?
What is meant by that ‘placement of the stars’?
Nay, I swear by the placement of the stars, and it is a great oath, if only you know. It is indeed an honoured Qur'an, in a hidden and protected Book, none touch it except the purified, a sending down from the Lord of the worlds.
[Surah: 56 – Al-Waqiaa – Verses: 76-80]

In the name of Allah, Ar-Rahman (The Most Gracious) The Most Merciful, blessings and peace be upon the last of all messengers and prophets, Muhammad, blessings and peace be upon him and upon the followers of truth until the day of Judgment.
My brother Imran, the placement of stars is the space they occupy of the vacuum of empty space in the universe. Allah swore by its greatness to teach you the magnitude of a star and that it is not the tiny small object we see with our bare eyes. Those are of the scientific signs and facts of the Great Qur’an. And the people of scientific knowledge testify to this statement; that one star really is equal in size to millions of planet earth that we live on. So, it is clear to you that the oath is an indication to the magnitude of the great stars placed in space.
If you could ask the former peoples, before the exploration of space and the invention of the magnifying telescope, do you know that a single star of all those stars in space is equal to millions of our earth’s size? They would not have believed it and [one of them would have] said: How could it be! if that was true, we would have seen it big”. And it is because he is unaware of the distance between him and the stars to be thousands of light years and his sight is weak, not being able to comprehend the magnitude of the objects he sees far away.
And for that, Allah has clarified that the placement of the stars is great and they are not like what we see with our weak sight, and Allah, The Exalted, said: {﴾فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَاقِعِ النُّجُومِ ﴿75﴾ وَإِنَّهُ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ ﴿76} صدق الله العظيم [الواقعة] { Nay, I swear by the placement of the stars, (75) and it is a great oath, if only you know. (76)}

And it is an indication of the greatness of the space which a star occupies of the emptiness, so Allah teaches you that He swore by something great and not small as we see with our weak sight. Therefore Allah, The Exalted, has said: {وَإِنَّهُ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ } صدق الله العظيم [الواقعة] { and it is a great oath, if only you know (76)} [Surah: 56 – Al-Waqiaa- Verses: 76]
And He did not swear by the stars themselves, but by their placement to indicate their magnitude.
Peace be upon the messengers and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
